The Detroit City Council recognized two Detroit Department of Transportation employees with Spirit of Detroit awards for a life-saving rescue on July 21, 2025.
Council Member at-Large (Member Young) described how transportation equipment operator Jerome Dillard, a 25-year DDOT veteran, and student operator Mitchell Green discovered a passenger unresponsive at the end of a Jefferson Avenue route, alerted DDOT’s control center and coordinated emergency response that led to successful resuscitation by fire and EMS. Members of DDOT leadership — including District Superintendent David Glenn and Director Robert Kramer — joined the presentation and offered brief remarks praising the employees’ training and calm response.
The council presented certificates and invited the honorees up for photos. DDOT leadership noted the recognition highlighted the department’s training and the readiness of front-line employees to respond in emergencies.
