Condo owners press Beach Haven on emergency reentry placards; council to review with emergency management

Several condominium residents urged the borough to revise a proposed emergency reentry protocol that, they say, effectively places responsibility for access on volunteer condo officers. Steve Pacheco, president of the Renaissance Condominium Association, said the policy would make volunteers the primary point of contact for insurance contractors and inspections, increasing liability and likely raising directors & officers insurance premiums.
"The rule is simply untenable," Pacheco said, describing the administrative burden on a volunteer board and warning that some association volunteers would resign rather than assume the new responsibilities. Other condo residents said the policy could delay repairs after storms if owners cannot get timely access to their units.
Mayor Lambert and councilors said the borough’s emergency management coordinator recommended that the emergency management team meet with council in executive session to review options and produce a recommendation. The mayor said there is no exact date but that the council expects an answer before the end of the year; placards currently in use are valid through year‑end, he added.
Council members said they are listening to residents' concerns and that the emergency management team’s guidance will inform a formal decision. No formal change was adopted at the meeting; council committed to a prompt follow‑up with emergency management and to communicate the outcome to condo owners.
