Committee adds vendors to Detroit vehicle supply schedule, enabling faster fleet purchases

The committee voted to send to formal a proposed amendment to the Detroit supply schedule to add another vendor for light-duty vehicle purchases, leases and upfitting services.
Acting deputy CFO and budget director Donnie Johnson said adding vendors increases the city’s ability to rapidly procure vehicles using the master installment purchase agreement when funding is available. The amendment would extend the schedule through June 30, 2029, upon council approval, and staff cited a total maximum order limitation of $135,000,000 for the schedule.
Procurement staff noted the vendor is Detroit-based with locations in other states and already holds a separate city contract for animal-control vehicles. City staff said adding competitive upfitting suppliers will increase competition for those services.
A motion to send line item 7.4 to formal with a recommendation to approve passed with no objections.
