Village Manager Willie Norfleet Jr. recommended on Jan. 5 that the Village of Maywood match donations made to the Water Relief Fund, and the Board of Trustees voted to send the matter to the Finance Committee for further review.
The motion to refer consideration of a matching contribution to the Jan. 21 Finance Committee meeting was made by Trustee N. Booker and seconded by Trustee A. Sanchez. The motion carried 4–2. Trustees M. Jones, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and N. Booker voted to refer; Mayor Edwenna Perkins and Trustee I. Brandon voted no.
The recommendation, as recorded in the meeting minutes, stated: "Mr. Norfleet recommended the Village match donations made to the Water Relief Fund." The Board did not commit Village funds on Jan. 5; the referral means Finance Committee members will review the proposal, including any budget implications, before bringing a formal recommendation back to the full Board.
Trustee I. Brandon first referenced the Water Relief Fund earlier in the meeting during manager announcements. The referral preserves the manager's recommendation for committee consideration while allowing time for staff to provide budget detail and any criteria for eligible recipients.
The Finance Committee meeting to review the matter is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2021. The Board’s Jan. 5 action does not authorize disbursement; it directs further review and discussion at the committee level.
