Erie County commissioners approve consent agenda items, ratify AFSCME agreement and authorize grants
Summary
At its March 18 meeting the Erie County Commissioners adopted a slate of administrative resolutions: approving minutes; authorizing grant applications; ratifying the AFSCME agreement with the County Engineer; approving agreements with the Sheriff, Juvenile Court and Prosecutor; and authorizing budget and then‑and‑now payments. The board also approved a large additional food‑service payment to Aramark.
The Erie County Commissioners used the March 18 meeting to approve a package of routine and administrative items covering contracts, budget adjustments, personnel actions and procurement authorizations.
On motions by Mr. Shoffner, seconded by Mr. Old, the board approved the March 5 minutes and adopted multiple resolutions by roll call: a resolution authorizing the Emergency Coordinator of the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Erie County EMA director to sign and submit a grant application (Resolution #26-66); confirmation of ratification of the agreement between the Erie County Engineer and AFSCME Local 1045 (Resolution #26-67); agreements assigning two deputies to provide security services at ECDJFS for $50,000 (Resolution #26-68); an agreement with the Erie County Common Pleas Court – Juvenile Division to provide Title IV‑D clerical services for ECDJFS for $50,000 (Resolution #26-69); and an agreement with the Erie County Prosecutor to provide child support legal services for ECDJFS for $50,000 (Resolution #26-70). All roll calls were recorded as unanimous (All Aye).
The board also adopted resolutions to declare surplus property, authorize Then and Now payments under Ohio Revised Code Section 5705.41(d)(1), and approve budget modifications and supplemental appropriations across multiple funds (Resolution #26-73 and related items). Separately, the board approved a revised auditor’s certificate increasing the Aramark Correctional Services contract by $371,533.50 to continue food service for county jail inmates and staff.
Other routine approvals included equipment outlay requests, travel forms for county staff, personnel actions and recruitment requests, and job descriptions for DOES Water/Wastewater positions. The board acknowledged receipt of correspondence, including a request from Vermilion Township trustees for a feasibility study of Vermilion Fire and EMS services and Safe Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter’s 2025 annual report and audited financial statements. The meeting adjourned at 10:22 a.m.
Sales tax was also reported: March collections (for December sales) totaled $1.949 million, and year‑to‑date totals stand at $5.437 million, an increase of roughly $252,000 compared with the prior year.
