New Public Works director sworn in; he warns aging fleet is unsafe and requests vehicle replacements

City Clerk Kasey Mitchell swore in Chris Berry as Kewanee’s new Public Works Director during the Oct. 14 council meeting.
After the swearing-in, Berry told the council that Public Works has immediate needs for a replacement snowplow and a truck. He said the municipal fleet is aging, is becoming too expensive to repair and presents safety concerns for crews. Berry said he is evaluating purchase options and will develop a long-term vehicle-replacement plan for council consideration.
Councilmembers welcomed Berry and thanked him for joining city staff. No formal purchase authorization or funding decision was made at the meeting; Berry’s remarks were discussion-only and staff will return with procurement options or requests as needed.
