Detroit council honors Detective Earl "Eazy" Monroe for 40 years of service

The Detroit Neighborhoods Committee recognized Detective Earl “Eazy” Monroe for 40 years of service to the Detroit Police Department during a brief ceremony at the start of its meeting. Council President Pro Tem Coleman A. Young II presented a Spirit of Detroit award, praising Monroe’s "strength and integrity" and noting the sacrifice required by a life in policing.
Monroe thanked family members, his longtime partner and his supervisors for supporting a long career, saying the people he worked with made it possible for him to continue serving. "If it wasn't for the bosses and my teammates that I work with, it wouldn't have been — I probably been going at 30," Monroe said, adding, "So I appreciate everything everybody's done for me." The committee and attendees then posed for photos.
Young read the service span shown in the agenda materials and the ceremony: "Retirement for the Detroit Police Department. Monday, 01/06/1986 through Thursday, 02/26/2020," and thanked Monroe "for your tireless efforts, exceptional achievement, outstanding leadership, and dedicated devotion that lifts the spirits and hearts of the people of Detroit." The committee made no formal policy decisions during the recognition.
The committee recessed public ceremonial business and moved to the public comment portion of its agenda after concluding the recognition.
