Sabrina Levine introduced herself as a Detroit native, former educator and social-worker who said she has served vulnerable pregnant mothers and babies and led neighborhood block-club projects. Levine said she would prioritize "being more noticeable in the community and... being that voice for that marginalized population," and told members she would push for enforcement of local ordinances that protect residents.
Misa Cancel (who identified herself as a co‑founder of MANA and a former district manager for the city) described recruitment work with the Hispanic Police Officers Association and said she would use her experience to coordinate outreach and ensure city employment and programs "are inclusive of all groups." Members asked both nominees to explain how they would carry outreach into the community and requested the mayor's resolution paperwork before the committee advanced the nominations.
LPD staff told the committee that it is customary for the mayor to draft the appointment resolutions and that the resolutions would be sent to the committee before the end of the meeting. The committee motioned to move both line items to formal session with a recommendation to approve, pending receipt of the appropriate mayoral resolutions.
