Committee forwards several event petitions to formal session and agrees to amend minutes noting $4 million Forestry amendment

The Neighborhood & Community Service Standing Committee moved several event petitions to formal session with recommendation for approval and approved a procedural motion to amend prior minutes to reflect a previously approved Forestry Department budget amendment.

Committee members read petition details into the record and moved each item to formal session: a petition from Washington Entertainment to hold an R&B Music Festival at Hart Plaza on Aug. 7'9, 2026 (setup beginning Aug. 6); a petition from Black Girl Conglomerates for a "Black Girl Picnic" on Aug. 15, 2026 at Roosevelt Park (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.); March of Dimes' March for Babies planned for June 13, 2026 at Roosevelt Park; and a Michigan Humane run/walk/adopt event on May 9, 2026 at Roosevelt Park, the Joe Louis Greenway and Ralph C. Wilson Centennial Park. Each petition included setup and teardown windows as read into the record, and committee members recorded no objections to moving the items to formal session.

Separately, Vice Chair Scott Benson moved to reconsider and modify previously approved minutes to note that a motion to submit a $4,000,000 budget amendment request to the Forestry Department had been made and approved earlier but was not recorded in the minutes. The committee approved the motion to modify the minutes; the clerk said the amended minutes would be placed on the next committee agenda for final approval.
