Union County board to shift to laptops for hearings and limit paper binders

Staff (S1) told the board the county plans to stop printing large appeal binders and instead place laptops and PDF agendas at each member’s seat so board members and taxpayers can view evidence and click to referenced pages.
"We are moving away from that. So what we're going as soon as we can get them delivered, we're moving to laptops, for the board," S1 said, noting devices have been on back order and that a meeting or two may still use paper until IT sets up the laptops. Members asked whether PDFs would also sync to the room monitors so taxpayers could follow along; staff said the plan is to synchronize displays to both the room monitor and members’ individual views.
Staff reiterated that, as a quasi-judicial body, evidence is typically presented at the hearing and that routine advance release of evidence is unlikely, though staff said it would check practices in other counties. The board reviewed scheduling: the official adjournment date for the session is May 6 and staff said the group currently has about 315 appeals, with most carryovers settled and a small number still at the Property Tax Commission.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn and routine congratulations among members.
