Committee advances athletic trainer compact to streamline licensing reciprocity

Representative Smith introduced House Bill 285, a compact intended to allow athletic trainers to carry a single multistate license and reduce the need for separate reciprocity agreements among states. Smith said the compact model would help telemedicine and continuity of care for students and others who move across state lines, and that the compact requires seven states to enact the model for it to come into effect.
James Mousy, a Delaware-licensed athletic trainer who said he represents himself, the Board of Examiners for Physical Therapy and Athletic Training (which he chairs) and the Delaware Athletic Trainers Association, urged support, saying the compact would reduce duplicate recordkeeping and improve continuity of care for student-athletes and military families. “The AT compact would improve continuity of care for this and similar situations,” he told the committee.

Committee members moved to release the bill; the chair recorded that the bill was moved out of committee after roll call, and the committee will post it on the legislative website for the next steps (the transcript does not record a roll-call tally).
