The St. Charles Parish School Board on Nov. 19 approved a series of unanimous motions to advance capital, personnel and program items, and announced a forthcoming meeting to consider putting a millage renewal on the May 16, 2026 ballot.
The board accepted the lowest base bid of $9,869,000 from TBT Contracting, Inc. of Louisiana for the middle school auxiliary gyms and fitness rooms project after the architect certified the bid met requirements. Board President (speaker 1) said accepting the lowest bid will allow the contractor to begin work; the motion was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
The board also adopted the 2026–27 school-session calendar on second reading and approved a recommended stipend rate of $25 per hour for noncertified tutors employed through the state-funded high-dosage tutoring program, a change the board said is intended to recruit and retain qualified tutors who are not former certified teachers. Both items were approved unanimously.
On athletics, the board approved district participation in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls flag football pilot program for spring 2026–27 and authorized stipend funding for a head coach and two assistant coaches (board discussion cited estimated stipend ranges of $12,500–$14,700 for coaching and $6,000 for equipment). The board recorded the vote as passing unanimously.
The meeting opened with an announcement that the board will consider at its Dec. 10, 2025 meeting (5 p.m., central office boardroom, 13855 River Road, Luling) adopting a resolution ordering and calling a potential millage renewal election to be held May 16, 2026. The notice described the election as to authorize the levy of ad valorem taxes in School District Number 1 of St. Charles Parish.
Other routine items approved unanimously included the consent agenda (accounts payable, personnel items, ratification of substantial completion for the Humble High cafeteria expansion) and a first reading of revisions to board policy 4.6 0.13 concerning retiree health insurance. The board also approved minutes from prior committee meetings.
