The Mayfield Town Planning Commission voted on March 31 to approve an annexation petition by Pearl Lake Christiansen for roughly 1.84 acres inside the town boundary.
At the meeting, staff described a deed-description overlap with a neighboring property owner and said the county surveyor had declined to accept the contested description until the parties resolved that overlap. As staff explained, the commission and petitioner elected to annex only the portion “not contested,” moving forward with the smaller parcel as drawn on the map.
Committee member (speaker 5) moved to approve the annexation “as it's drawn on that map right there,” and the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote. The commission recorded the action and discussed next steps: the petitioner will provide a mylar for signatures, the town council will sign the plat, and staff will file required documents with the county clerk and surveyor for recording.
Commissioners noted the annexation's approximate location as “100 and south 250 west” and discussed that similar deed-description gaps are common in Mayfield and in other Western communities because of changes in surveying technology. The commission also confirmed there was no formal protest filed by the joint property owner and that recording signatures and clerical follow-up are required before the county completes its review.
The planning commission's approval sends the annexation forward for the council signature and the county recording process.
