Parents and commenters press AISD for transparency after released records, call for independent investigation

Several in-person speakers and recorded callers told the Austin ISD board that recent Public Information Act records reveal possible deletions and informal decision-making and that the board should pursue an independent investigation.
"In light of recent documents, I'm deeply concerned with the integrity of the process and the integrity of AISD leadership," said a public commenter who described deleted chats and alleged informal decisions outside public governance. "The record shows it. The law addresses it. The question is, will the board acknowledge it and do something about it?" (public commenter.)
Another caller said senior staff 'in internal messages' mocked parents and discussed using school assignments punitively, and asked the board for a transparent accounting of any exemptions in the consolidation process and a pause on consolidations until questions are resolved.
Board members thanked public commenters and asked staff for follow-ups; trustees asked staff to return with updates on the records and related concerns. Administration did not announce an independent investigation on the record but did commit to follow-up information and community meetings on specific items raised, including the Yellowjacket Stadium and the menstrual-products pilot.
Next steps: trustees requested updates and staff said they would provide clarifications and follow-up in future communications and scheduled stakeholder meetings.
