Students from Washington High School perform for the board; candidate Sharon Gold addresses the meeting

The board opened a portion of its April 1 meeting to a student jazz-band performance and brief introductions. Caleb Armstrong, who the board thanked for leading the class, described the students’ musical interaction and praised their growth.
"All of them soloing all over the top of each other...it's this amazing, high level thinking musical technique," Armstrong said, introducing seniors and other student performers. Several students spoke briefly about their instruments and how the program shaped their school experience; Washington High School students noted scholarships and first-time instrument learning.
Board directors praised the students’ musicianship and camaraderie and thanked Armstrong for his work with the program. One director noted the marching band will be first in the upcoming Daffodil Parade.
During the public comment period, Sharon Gold introduced herself to the board and said she is running for the Franklin Pierce school board. Gold summarized her background in linguistics, military service, an MBA and district employment as reasons she believes she is qualified to serve. She also raised local concerns such as sidewalks missing where students wait for buses.
Board President closed public comment after Gold spoke and the meeting proceeded to consent and policy items.
