Franklin Pierce board unanimously adopts agenda, consent items and retires several policies

At its April 1 meeting the Franklin Pierce School District board unanimously adopted the agenda and consent items, and voted to retire multiple policies tied to recent Title IX and regulatory guidance; directors also approved the 2024–25 Highly Capable Program renewal.
The Franklin Pierce School District Board of Directors voted unanimously on several procedural and policy items during its April 1 meeting.
Board President called for adoption of the published agenda; after a motion from a director the board adopted the agenda by voice vote. The consent agenda was similarly moved and approved without opposition.
Directors then voted unanimously to retire a set of district policies explained by staff as related to recent Title IX regulatory developments and an OSPI bulletin. The retirements recorded in the meeting included:
- Policy 03/25/2024 — described in the agenda as “discrimination and [Title IX-based] harassment of students prohibited” (motion moved by a director; passed unanimously). - Policy 3,206 — “pregnant and parenting students” (motion moved and passed unanimously). - Policy 05/11/2024 — “discrimination and [Title IX-based] harassment of district staff” (moved and passed unanimously). - Policy 5012 — “parental, family or marital status and pregnancy or related conditions of staff” (moved and passed unanimously).
Staff explained these changes as rolling parts of district procedures back to earlier Title IX-aligned language after a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision and accompanying OSPI guidance, while stressing that Washington state law remains applicable. As district staff said, "We are still required to follow the laws of Washington state, which are more robust than the Title IX regulations that we're rolling back to." (Claudia, district presenter).
The board also approved the 2024–25 Highly Capable Student Program annual plan renewal by unanimous vote; presenters said there are no substantive changes this year beyond prior adjustments to identification at second and fifth grades to comply with state law.
The meeting moved on to policy proposals and an executive session on a personnel matter later in the evening.
