District highlights growth in dual enrollment and CTE pathways; trustees praise early-college graduations

Brian Glonczak, interim supervisor of college and career programs, said dual-enrollment enrollments with Cerritos College now exceed 700 in the fall term and that the districtaccounts for over a third of the college partnerenrollments across the community-college consortium. Glonczak also highlighted an early-college program cohort that enabled 20 Whitney High School students to complete substantial college coursework; 15 of those students earned an associate degree by high-school graduation.
CTE leadership described pathway expansion at the high-school and middle-school levels, noting Artesia High has 13 pathways and the district now offers at least one introductory CTE course at every middle school. Officials described industry partnerships (Harbor Freight externships for welding and auto programs, CVS for pharmacy technician certification, outreach to the Cerritos Auto Square for internships), and reported a preliminary allocation of about $1,010,000 from the Career Technical Incentive Grant to expand summer opportunities and counseling at middle schools.
Trustees praised the programs and asked about labor-market alignment and postgraduation employment tracking. Officials said they use regional labor-market research (Center of Excellence) and advisory committees, and that teacher-practitioners with industry experience and Cerritos College professors help bridge classroom and workplace credentials. Staff also reported that the district conducts follow-up surveys to measure completer outcomes (college enrollment, job placement) and plans to improve response rates.
The board did not take a separate vote on program expansion at the study session; several policy and budget items tied to CTE (grant allocations, program marketing) were referred to future board briefings.
