Undersheriff Brett Nelson told the Kootenai County commissioners on March 19 that three deputies he nominated had been selected to receive an Idaho "Bridal of Honor" award and that the attorney general's office requires the host agency to cover framing and mounting costs for each recipient.
Nelson said the estimated cost to frame and mount each citation and photo is $997, for a total of about $2,991. He asked permission to move those funds within his budget; commissioners discussed using the sheriff's employee bonus line but noted the BOCC has an unused consultant line item that could cover the cost.
Commissioner Duncan moved to transfer $3,000 from the BOCC consultant line item to the sheriff's budget to cover the framing/mounting; the motion passed on an affirmative roll call. The board asked staff to submit invoices to the BOCC for payment processing. Undersheriff Nelson said the sheriff’s office has hiring activity underway and hopes to use sign‑on bonuses from other budget lines for recruitment needs.
