Sunnyvale staff updates art projects, announces Earth Day scavenger hunt and Lakewood Park RFQ

At the March 18 meeting staff briefed the Arts Commission on several public‑art projects and upcoming events.
Kristen said a jury was held for the Lakewood Park artwork and staff plans to release an RFQ to engage artists for the site. She also said five design proposals for the community center grounds renovation have been received and will be presented to the commission at its April 15 meeting for review.
Plaza Del Sol has been narrowed to five shortlisted artists whose proposals are due the following Monday, Kristen said, and the artwork for the Lakewood Library is in fabrication. Staff also said the city will announce a 'suns' scavenger hunt at the downtown Earth Day celebration on April 11; the scavenger hunt will highlight the 26 'suns' across 13 parks with a prize for participants who complete the card.
Separately, staff reported bench designs for Corn Palace Park have been approved, contracts executed and the benches ordered with an anticipated arrival in about four weeks followed by artist installation. Commissioners also celebrated local student artists selected for the Art Now 2026 exhibit at Museum Los Gatos.
Staff said additional logistics and timelines will be shared as proposals and fabrication schedules are finalized.
