Rotary and Lions honored for $10,000 playground donation; library board reports $75,000 donor and survey results

The council publicly recognized community groups and volunteers for donations and program support.

City staff read a proclamation acknowledging a combined $10,000 donation from the Morning Rotary Club and the Lions Club of Carpinteria toward replacement of rubber surfacing and an interpretive play area at a city playground. Rotary and Lions leaders presented a ceremonial check and thanked the council; Rotary president Steve Gortes and Friends of the Library president Susy Shyder spoke about fundraising and partnership with the city.

Library advisory board members reported a successful slate of recent programs (craft workshops, book clubs, a Lunar New Year event and a creative writing workshop) and presented results of a bilingual community survey (68 respondents), which showed 92% of respondents said they felt welcome at the library and 79% said they trusted the programs they found there. The board also noted a $75,000 donation made in recognition of long-term support by a local donor and asked the council to consider continued collaboration on volunteer structures and teen programming; a teen advisory committee requested a dedicated in-library game console for youth programming.
