Los Banos Unified board approves unaudited 2023–24 financials, adopts strategic plan and several resolutions

The Los Banos Unified School District board unanimously approved its unaudited actuals for the 2023–24 fiscal year and adopted a new district strategic plan at its Sept. 11 meeting.
The district's director of fiscal services presented the unaudited actuals, saying enrollment was 46 students higher than at budget development while the unduplicated pupil count declined by about 50. Average daily attendance rose by 178. The director reported certificated salaries closed the year at $53,800,000, classified salaries at $15,900,000, benefits at $36,200,000, books and supplies at $10,400,000, services at $15,300,000 and capital outlay nearly $1,000,000. The presentation showed an ending fund balance of $75,900,000, including carryover and designated reserves; the director cautioned that a $2,500,000 retro payroll payment processed in August will be reflected in the first interim report.
"All extra funds have been expensed," the superintendent said during his report, thanking staff for spending one‑time money on students. The board subsequently moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve the unaudited actuals.

Closed‑session reporting
The board reported three closed‑session actions: approval of a waiver for a physical‑education graduation requirement for one Los Banos High School student and approval of parental requests for early graduation for two students (one at Pacheco High School and one at Crossroads alternative education). Each action was approved by unanimous vote.
What happens next
The unaudited actuals will be compared to the audited numbers after the external auditors complete work in October and the district brings a first interim report to the board later this fall. The district indicated the fiscal presentation materials will be posted to the district website under the meeting agenda.
