Survey: Cusseta–Chattahoochee County residents prioritize sewer, better water and grocery stores

Survey responses included in the plan’s appendix show residents consistently calling for improvements to water quality and distribution, the addition of sewer services, better road maintenance and more retail options such as a grocery store and restaurants.
Participation and scale: the appendix reports 40 answered responses for the opening survey questions and many verbatim comments collected during outreach. Common themes in responses: concerns about low water pressure and leaks; requests for a sewer system in order to attract businesses; requests for a grocery store and restaurants; and mixed views about growth, with some residents favoring ‘stay small’ and others asking for economic opportunity.
Representative points from the appendix (paraphrased from multiple respondents): residents said the water sometimes has low pressure and frequent leaks; several respondents wrote that a grocery store and more restaurants would reduce the need to travel to Columbus; others asked for improved maintenance of dirt roads in older subdivisions.
How the plan responds: the Comprehensive Plan Update incorporates survey-identified priorities into its Needs and Opportunities and includes related projects in the five-year work program (water distribution updates, sewer planning for Broad Street, road-improvement priorities and economic-development tasks).
Next steps: the draft plan will accept further public comment through the final hearing scheduled for Dec. 11, 2025, before submission to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
