Morris School District board elects Kathleen Cole president, Meredith Davidson vice president

The Morris School District Board of Education elected Kathleen Cole president and Meredith Davidson vice president during its reorganizational meeting.

Kathleen Cole, a member of the board who had just taken the oath of office earlier in the meeting, was nominated from the floor and approved by roll call after no other nominations were offered. Meredith Davidson was nominated for a second term as vice president and likewise approved by roll call.

The reorganization also included appointments to external organizations: the board named Meredith Davidson as alternate to the New Jersey School Boards Association and to the Morris County School Boards; the Morris Educational Foundation delegate was identified during the appointments. These leadership and delegate appointments were bundled and approved as part of the reorganization votes.

The superintendent, identified in the meeting as Dr. Moochie, offered a New Year message thanking board members and their families for their service, welcomed the new delegate from Morris Plains and read a mayoral declaration recognizing board service across the three towns that make up the Morris School District. "We're off to a great start in the new year," Dr. Moochie said in the report.

The board opened the meeting for public comment but recorded none before moving on to business matters.

Next procedural steps: the board will proceed with agenda business and committee assignments for the year, and chairs were asked to reconfirm committee schedules with members as needed.
