Maywood trustees approve warrants, police procurements and a zero‑percent levy; park renaming tabled

Finance and vendor approvals: Trustees approved Warrant List No. 200504 through Dec. 9, 2020 totaling $512,162.74. The board approved omnibus payments including legal invoices (October legal services totaling $3,298.50 for general matters and $37,740.17 for employment, litigation, redevelopment and miscellaneous matters), vendor payments to Accu‑tron Computer Service ($6,300.00), Allied Waste Service ($13,221.05), Blue Cross Blue Shield for December health insurance premiums ($287,548.68), Cargill, Inc. for bulk salt ($8,231.50), City Wide of Chicago (Clever Corporation) for janitorial services ($7,524.52), and Kane, McKenna and Associates, Inc. for Madison/Roosevelt TIF professional services ($12,308.75).
Police Department items: The board authorized MPD Proposal No. 26 — a $9,500 kiosk payment to be reimbursed by a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program grant — and approved MPD Proposal No. 27 to repair Unit 122 at $13,159.40 by Area Towing Inc. d/b/a Payless Autobody with a bid waiver. Trustees also approved MPD Proposal No. 28 to publicly recognize the West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association and the Proviso Children's Advocacy Center.
Tax levy and park naming: The board considered the ordinance levying taxes for 2020 and moved to accept a zero percent corporate tax levy increase; the motion to accept a Zero Percent Corporate Tax Levy Increase passed on a divided vote (ayes: Trustees A. Sanchez, K. Wellington, M. Lightford, N. Booker; nays: Mayor Perkins, I. Brandon, M. Jones). A proposal to name the basketball courts at Connor‑Heise Memorial Park the Honorary Glen Doc Rivers Family Basketball Courts was tabled pending additional information from the village attorney; that tabling motion passed 4‑3.
