District facilities staff presented a site-by-site update to the board Wednesday, describing temporary and longer-term repairs across Farmersville Unified campuses and progress on a solar installation.
Facilities staff said crews applied temporary treatments to deteriorated metal ramps to address slip hazards and plan a Phase 2 effort (trim, siding and paint) when weather and contractor schedules permit. Staff indicated permanent redesigns of some portable-classroom ramps would require DSA approval and additional funding.
The presenter described storm-related damage that prompted removal of an aged pine tree near a walkway for safety reasons and said the contractor will preserve slices of the trunk for a potential placard or play feature. Staff also reported a no-cost grant that supplied new refrigerated bottle-fill drinking fountains at several sites, including the cafeteria and junior-high gym, to improve hydration and ADA access.
On the district's solar project at Snowdon Elementary, staff reported contractor work is under way but weather and an engineering change for a pillar have caused modest delays; overall the schedule remains on track to complete the system.
"Safety is number 1," the facilities presenter said when trustees raised concerns about the tree and ramp conditions.
Trustees asked staff about cleaning campus sidewalks (gum removal), preparing athletic fields and timing for further site dress-up work; staff said the district recently purchased a hot-pressure steamer to remove gum and will provide a phased schedule for painting and other cosmetic work once weather improves and contractor availability aligns with project priorities.
The board also considered a facility-use request from Daniel Garza, a Farmersville alumnus who asked to use the junior-high gym for a youth basketball program. Garza said he has a roster of 25 seventh- and eighth-grade boys, mostly Farmersville students, and that he submitted insurance documentation. Trustees agreed to waive facility fees pending verification of insurance and required paperwork; the motion (Alice Lopez) was seconded by John Alvarez and carried 5-0.
Other routine facility and donation items were approved during the meeting, and trustees asked staff to provide schedules and follow-up reports on field prep and phase-2 cosmetic work.
