Summary
The Grand Island town board adopted a lengthy Natural Resource Inventory resolution developed by volunteers, praised its interactive map and said the document will underpin future grant applications.
The Grand Island town board voted to adopt a Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) resolution during its Regular Meeting No. 6, with board members praising the volunteers who compiled the report and an interactive map the board said will help future grant work.
The move came after a motion by the meeting chair to adopt the lengthy resolution and a second from a council member. The chair said the NRI is “a foundation building block for many grants and opportunities,” and a council member added that the volunteer group had done “an outstanding job” and that the work would strengthen grant applications.
Speakers noted the inventory includes an interactive, layered map available through the town’s conservation advisory board page and that, while some interactive features are limited behind firewalls, the underlying data is hosted externally for public viewing. The chair emphasized the NRI was the first step of a longer process and thanked volunteers for their multi-year effort.
On a roll call vote the resolution was approved; the clerk recorded aye votes from the members present. The board did not set a further implementation deadline during the meeting; speakers said follow-up tasks will be handled with the volunteer group and staff as needed.
