The Village of Broadview formally swore in two new police commanders during the board meeting.
A department representative introduced Frank Capello as the administrative commander, saying he "comes with 37 years of law enforcement experience, 24 years with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office" and highlighted his roles in training, crisis intervention, use-of-force de-escalation and high-risk traffic-stop instruction. The clerk administered the oath and attendees congratulated Commander Capello.
Kevin M. Richmond was sworn in as operations commander. The department representative noted Richmond's 29 years of law-enforcement experience, including service as deputy chief of a municipal police department and most recently as a captain at a university police department; the representative said Richmond would collaborate with the new administrative commander on training and professional development.
Village President Katrina Thompson welcomed the commanders and urged officers to look out for one another, saying, "make it home at the end of your shift." Both commanders were presented as experienced leaders who will focus on training and mentoring newer officers in what officials described as a young department.
The oath-of-office proceedings were accompanied by brief remarks from village leadership and closed with congratulations and an invitation for photos.
