Justin Solvay, who identified himself as a Coleman parent, told the board, "Coleman has the physical space and faculty appetite to do so," and argued adding a third TK would ease drop-off logistics, keep siblings together, and help the district retain students who might otherwise choose private school. He said he and other parents were aware of neighborhood families and siblings who did not receive TK placement this year and urged the district to act to prevent turning away community families.
Anne Levinson, who said she is a Coleman parent, asked the board to reexamine enrollment policy to prioritize students whose parents work at specific school sites and said adding a third TK would be a no-cost way to support staff and families. Another parent, Angela, described applying for an intra-district transfer after her younger child was denied TK placement despite having an older sibling at Coleman; she said splitting siblings across campuses would reduce her family’s ability to volunteer and participate in the school community.
Board members acknowledged the comments, thanked parents for testifying, and indicated staff will consider the requests as part of enrollment and capacity planning. No vote was taken; public comment closed before the consent agenda and subsequent items.
