President Katz led the motion and trustees voted affirmatively in roll call, with Trustee Abduly recorded absent. Board members said the revenue is intended to sustain staffing and programs and cited volunteer leaders who have joined the campaign committee.
Board members opened a public hearing on the measure and closed it within minutes after no members of the public spoke.
Trustees described the parcel tax as a ‘‘game changer’’ for maintaining local services and said they will work with community volunteers and union partners on outreach ahead of the election. Trustee Sanjay Taj said the committee has been meeting with community stakeholders and that the parcel tax will provide a critical opportunity to reconnect with longtime voters.
What comes next: adopting the resolution formally puts the measure on the district’s calendar for an upcoming election. Trustees said staff and volunteer campaign leaders will continue planning and outreach in the coming weeks.
