The Finance Committee moved and voted to recommend the proposed FY budgets for both the police and fire departments after presentations from chiefs and staff. George Perkins moved the motion to recommend the budgets and a member seconded; the committee recorded verbal aye votes and the motion passed.
The committee also approved two budget transfers brought forward by staff: $29,009.05 to cover property insurance for the new DPW facility and $3,000 to fund a health-department physician contract through April 2022 while recruitment continues. Committee members confirmed that the health-department position is included in the FY23 budget and noted that, if recruitment is not successful by April, an additional transfer request could be necessary.
The meeting closed with expressions of thanks to both chiefs for their service and announcements of upcoming retirements; the committee adjourned by motion later in the evening.
