The Milledgeville City Council approved Ordinance O-2512-21 on Feb. 10 to rezone 261 Mobley Road from Office/Institutional (OI) to Community Commercial (CC), allowing an auto repair shop and an embroidery business on the property.
Elizabeth Martin, who identified herself as the property owner and longtime local business operator, told the council she and her husband have run an automotive repair shop serving Milledgeville since 1983 and purchased the building at 261 Mobley Road to continue operations and preserve the building. She said utilities are in place, they plan a new roof and cleanup work, and the business will be primarily fleet-focused and "quiet."
After no one spoke in opposition, a motion to accept the Planning and Zoning Commission's findings was moved and seconded; the clerk called the roll and the motion carried with unanimous "Aye" votes.
Council welcomed the investment and noted the adaptive reuse of the former Central State building. Staff will complete the normal zoning and permitting steps before the business begins operations.
