Duplin County Schools board appoints Darren Tyndall as interim superintendent

The board then approved a resolution asking the State Board of Education to approve Tyndall’s interim appointment. Miss Edwards moved the resolution and Mr. Keenan seconded; the chair called for a voice vote and the motion carried. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the public record provided here.
Chairman Davis congratulated Tyndall and told the board that the clerk’s office will swear him in at the board’s next regular meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. the following evening. The chair also said the district will begin a formal search process for a permanent superintendent.
Speaking after the votes, Darren Tyndall thanked the board for the opportunity. “I’m humbled and honored,” he said, and pledged to “continue to serve the students of Duplin County Schools and build upon the legacy” of the late superintendent.
Earlier in the meeting, community member Bobby Mobley led the group in prayer for students, staff and the late superintendent’s family. The board took no other public comment at the session and adjourned after completing the personnel actions.
Next steps: the clerk’s office will swear in the interim superintendent at the next regular meeting; the board will begin a formal superintendent search and has requested State Board approval of the interim appointment.
