Brooke County commission accepts resignation, names Diserio president and opens Follansbee seat for November election

The County Commission of Brooke County voted unanimously March 3 to accept an order recording the resignation of Commissioner Thomas and to advertise the vacant Follansbee District seat for the Nov. 3, 2026 general election.
Commissioner Stacey Wise moved to approve the order; Commissioner Thomas R. Diserio seconded and the motion passed without objection. The minutes record that board assignments formerly held by Commissioner Thomas — including seats on the Senior Citizen Board, Library Board, BHJ Board, Local Emergency Board, Business Development Board and the Brooke County Ambulance Authority Board — were tabled until a new commissioner is appointed. The minutes also note that the outgoing commissioner indicated a desire to continue serving on the Business Development Board.
At the same meeting the commission voted unanimously to approve Thomas R. Diserio as President of the Commission. The action was moved by Commissioner Wise and seconded by Commissioner Diserio.
The commission also received a resignation letter from Flora Perrone from the Brooke County Ambulance Authority Board and noted a recommendation from that board to appoint A.J. Thomas to fill Perrone’s vacancy. The commission said it will allow two weeks for other interested parties to apply before taking a final appointment action.
