The Wisconsin Rapids Planning Commission unanimously approved a site plan and minor alteration request from Rapids Area Soccer Inc. to build a permanent 10-by-32-foot press box at Washington Elementary.
Elizabeth Edwardson, associate planner, said staff determined the project is a minor alteration to the school's conditional use permit because the intensity of use would not change; building setbacks, dimensional standards and parking needs are met. Staff recommended approval with two conditions: obtaining applicable building permits and allowing minor plan modifications to be reviewed and approved administratively by the Community Development Department.
A motion to approve the construction of the press box passed 7–0. The applicant must secure the building permits and comply with any site-plan or architectural requirements before constructing the press box.
