Summary
City Planner Madison Brown told the council that an $85,000 request from several years ago for a Hop Trail crossing at 750 North has an updated estimate of $250,000; the Transportation Advisory Committee at WFRC approved the city's additional funding request and it will go to the next committee in April.
City Planner Madison Brown told the Willard City Council on March 26 that a long-standing request for funding to create a crossing on 750 North at 200 West as part of the Hop Trail has increased substantially in cost.
Brown said the request originated about six to seven years ago under former employee Bryce Wheelwright and was initially estimated at $85,000. Updated estimates put the project at about $250,000 because of higher material and labor costs; the city's local match remains just under $11,000. Brown said the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) at WFRC approved the additional funding request the previous day and the project will go to the next committee in April for final consideration.
Brown emphasized the importance of coordinating construction with UDOT's planned storm-drain work on 750 North to avoid conflicts. City Engineer Zach Burke and City Manager Jeremy Kimpton will also be involved, and Brown invited any interested councilmembers to participate in planning. She said the project will likely be funded from next year’s budget and could take several years to complete.
The council expressed support for advancing the project to improve pathway connections and safety at the crossing; the minutes record no formal vote on funding at the March 26 meeting.
