Willard Council adopts new on-call pay for police officers

City Manager Jeremy Kimpton told the council that under the previous policy officers received $63 per month for on-call duty, which he characterized as inadequate. The resolution replaces that flat monthly rate with compensation of one hour of pay for each day an officer is assigned to be on call, aligning police on-call pay more closely with the way public works staff are compensated.
Councilmembers said they had reviewed the proposed changes at the previous meeting and found them acceptable. Councilmember Rodney Mund moved to adopt Resolution No. 2026-03; Councilmember Jacob Bodily seconded. A roll-call vote was recorded with Mund, Braegger, Christensen and Hulsey voting yes; the meeting record lists those four yes votes and the motion carried.
The meeting minutes do not specify an effective date for the policy change or the salary-rate used to compute the hourly on-call pay; the city manager or human-resources staff will need to finalize those administrative details.
