Parents press Colton Joint Unified for Title I budget transparency and safety fixes at Lincoln Elementary

"Parents have concerns about the school-site council process and Title I funding transparency," said Anna Del Rio, who identified herself as a Lincoln Elementary parent, asking that the full school budget be shared before SSC votes so families can make informed decisions. She and several other parents also said frequent leadership turnover has harmed staff morale and contributed to inconsistent supply availability.
Other speakers described gaps in communication when students visit the health office and raised custodial accountability issues. Jasmine Garcia summarized parent accounts that some student reports "may have been dismissed or not fully taken seriously," and asked how the district ensures concerns are investigated appropriately. Amanda Oliverio and Lisa Villa also asked for equitable, consistent communications to rebuild trust between families and school leadership.
The board acknowledged the concerns and did not provide immediate answers during public comment. President Bertha Flores and board members directed Superintendent Dr. Miranda to meet with the parents and review the issues raised, saying staff would follow up with the group.
District staff present included Cynthia Bueno, the Spanish-language interpreter who assisted several public speakers. The board did not take formal action on the requests at the meeting, but the superintendent's office was asked to convene a meeting with the parents to review SSC procedures, Title I allocations and campus reporting protocols.
What happens next: the board directed the superintendent to meet with the parents to discuss their questions; any changes to SSC practice, Title I allocation transparency, or notification procedures would be brought forward to the board in subsequent communications or meetings.
