Butler County supervisors hold public hearing on FY27 property tax levy; residents object to daytime schedule

The Butler County Board of Supervisors on March 31 opened a public hearing to consider the county's proposed fiscal 2027 property tax levy. Chairman Greg Barnett called the special meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. and supervisors Wayne Dralle and Rusty Eddy joined him.
County Auditor Leslie Groen explained the published notice and the purpose of the hearing. Four people attended the special meeting; several used the public-comment portion to object to holding the hearing during weekday daytime hours rather than in the evening or on a Saturday and to raise general concerns about levy levels.
Barnett acknowledged the scheduling concern and said he had heard it from others. County Assessor Dave Wangsness addressed members of the public who had questions about property assessments, responding specifically to comments about the Vanguard re-appraisal project.
Supervisor Wayne Dralle moved, and Supervisor Rusty Eddy seconded, to close the public hearing at 9:02 a.m.; the board voted "all ayes." With no additional questions, Dralle moved and Eddy seconded to adjourn the meeting, which concluded at 9:04 a.m. The minutes of the special meeting were attested by County Auditor Leslie Groen and signed by Chairman Greg Barnett.
