District presents Prop 28 arts report; board asked to approve allocation summary

District curriculum staff presented the annual Proposition 28 report and asked the board to approve the summary for submission to the state.
Liat Curcio, senior director of curriculum and instruction, explained that Prop 28 funds are allocated to school sites and that statutory guidance requires roughly 80% of the allocation be used for staffing. She said the district’s allocation varies year to year and provided an overview of how sites incorporate Prop 28 into their single plans for student achievement.
STEAM staff and arts teachers gave examples of how sites use Prop 28 funds: Live Oak and Fallbrook STEAM Academy use funds to support lab‑based arts instruction; digital art and adaptive art were added at Potter Junior High; some schools purchase materials and instruments, and many use funds to subsidize arts staffing. “Forty percent of the STEAM teachers are funded from Proposition 28,” Ayanna Morales said, describing VAPA days and classroom examples.
The board was asked to approve the Prop 28 annual report, which the district will submit to the state. Trustees moved and seconded the recommendation later in the meeting and approved the annual report as part of the business services consent items.
