Franklin City Council adopts policy allowing members to vote remotely up to twice per year

The Franklin City Council on Nov. 10 unanimously adopted an update to its electronic-participation policy that allows members to vote while participating electronically up to twice per year.
The mayor introduced the proposal as a revision to a policy the council had previously adopted that allowed virtual participation but not voting. “The policy update before you has been drafted to allow members to vote while participating electronically up to twice per year,” the mayor said. The council moved, seconded and voted to adopt the change.
Councilors then moved to include Councilmember Grizzard, who had joined electronically, as a participating member for the meeting under the new rule; the motion carried and Grizzard was recorded as present on the meeting connection.
What happens next: The policy becomes part of council rules governing remote participation and will be applied in future meetings per the adopted limits.
