Gardiner council approves proclamation honoring state champion boys basketball team and several routine items

Councilors approved a special event permit for the ritual markets on a motion by Councilor Babcock and accepted the city council meeting minutes from March 4, 2026. During council reports, members raised public-works and school-budget concerns — including the condition of Walnut Street, possible regional salt-shed collaboration, and litter and invasive vegetation at the Arcade parking lot and along Copsie Stream — and the mayor scheduled follow-up for several items.
Before adjourning to executive session, Councilor Cone (recorded label) moved to enter executive session "pursuant to 1 RMRSA 405 section 6 C" to discuss a real estate matter and later a personnel matter; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously to go into executive session. The mayor noted that cameras would be turned off and any votes taken in executive session would be recorded in the minutes.
