Commission opens SPLOST account, approves LMIG change and creates Public Safety Director post

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approved several administrative and personnel actions at its Feb. 4 regular meeting.
Commissioners voted unanimously to open a bank account for the 2025 SPLOST program and to change the county’s LMIG project allocation from Riverbend Road to Friendship Road. The board also unanimously approved reappointments to the Planning & Zoning Board — Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown — to terms ending Dec. 31, 2027; the reappointments are captured by formal resolutions entered in the record.
The commission created a Public Safety Director position by unanimous vote (motion by Commissioner Gerald Douglas, seconded by Commissioner Timothy Biddle). The meeting minutes record that the new position will proceed to appropriate hiring steps and that staff will administer related job postings and budgets through Human Resources.
County Manager Thomas Weaver provided operational updates at a subsequent work session, reporting inspections and staffing issues at an intergovernmental service arrangement and a stray‑facility inspection that produced a report the manager said the county must address within 30 days. Weaver said the roundabout project is underway; although the contract lists a 60‑day term, he estimated a year would be more realistic for completion. Public Works staff are preparing LMIG bid packets and repairing storm damage.
Routine approvals of several sets of minutes and an executive‑session entry to discuss legal matters were also recorded; the executive session began at 6:11 p.m. and the meeting reconvened at 7:07 p.m. The board adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
No budget appropriation for the Public Safety Director position was recorded in the meeting minutes; further budget and hiring steps will be routed through county staff and budget processes.
