The Oak Park Planning Commission offered a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the City of Oak Park zoning ordinance to add regulations for electric vehicle charging stations and to revise Article 4 (Division 4) on signs, but did not open the hearing because the commission lacked a quorum. The chair announced the item would be rescheduled to May 4.
"Without any objection, we're gonna open the public hearing...and since we do not have a quorum, we will not open the public hearing, but we've officially offered it up," the chair said during the meeting.
Commissioners questioned staff about whether the master-plan amendment notices tied to the item were for large developments such as data centers. City staff said the first notice appeared to describe a roughly 400,000-square-foot logistics/warehouse facility and the second a commercial thoroughfare intended as a transition buffer to adjacent residential areas. When a commissioner asked, "Are these data centers by any chance?", staff replied no and said they believed the first was a logistics facility.
Staff also explained that a delayed commission response could affect the timing of applicants' projects; applicants may assume a lack of response and proceed, but some matters cannot become administrative approvals under Oak Park guidelines. The commission agreed to formally open the hearing record and reschedule the public hearing for the next meeting date.
The item and the related memorandum were included in the commission packet; commissioners who had not received printed packets were told staff would follow up on deliveries. The commission adjourned after rescheduling the hearing.
