Redwood City School District launches superintendent search; highlights SEL expansion, reclassification gains and enrollment dates

The presenter said students are learning strategies for managing emotions and building empathy, and noted that five more schools launched Wayfinder, a Stanford-developed program that helps children build purpose, adaptability and confidence.
The update tied these efforts to the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Goal 1, which the presenter described as focusing on fostering safe, connected and welcoming school communities. As part of that goal, the district said it aims to reduce chronic absenteeism and increase overall attendance by 2% each school year, emphasizing middle school attendance as critical to long-term academic success.
The presenter recognized reclassification milestones for English learners, saying the district "celebrated close to 300 students" at this year's reclassification ceremony and specifying that 276 students were reclassified. Students from all 12 RCSD schools who speak more than 37 home languages participated in the ceremony, the update said.
On mental-health supports, the presenter said RCSD and Stanford University showcased the Stanford Redwood City Sequoia School Mental Health Collaborative at Stanford Medicine's Community Health Symposium. The initiative, the presenter said, has trained new clinicians since 2020 and won awards including the 2025 California Golden Bell Award.
The presenter added that district counseling services provided more than 6,800 individual therapy sessions last year, alongside group sessions and crisis interventions; the presentation said those services earned the 2025 Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association for the district's trauma-informed, student-centered approach.
The update also highlighted communications honors: the district received a Golden Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association for writing, branding and a Spanish-language finance publication intended to make financial information more accessible to families.
Finally, the presenter walked families through enrollment for the 2026-27 school year: children born between Sept. 2021 and 09/01/2022 are eligible for transitional kindergarten (TK); children born between Sept. 2020 and 09/01/2021 are eligible for kindergarten. TK tours are scheduled to begin Oct. 31 and kindergarten tours Nov. 14; enrollment opens Nov. 14 for all grade levels and the school of choice priority window opens the same day and closes 01/09/2026, the presenter said.
