Trustee Bill Shoots sworn in as Antelope-area representative; Roseville Joint Union High board adopts agenda

At the Roseville Joint Union High board’s Dec. 17 organizational meeting, Trustee Bill Shoots was sworn in as the new representative for the district’s Antelope area and Trustee Tiffany Coleman was recorded as reelected. The board then voted to adopt the meeting agenda and moved into closed session with no public comments on closed-session items.

The swearing-in began when a board official read the oath of office aloud. Trustee Bill Shoots recited the oath in the first person, stating, “I, Bill Shoots, do solemnly swear…,” completing the formal oath to support and defend the constitutions of the United States and the State of California and to discharge the duties of office.

The chair congratulated the newly sworn and returning trustees, noting "congratulations to our 3 board members" and that two trustees were renewing four-year terms. The chair also commented on the oath’s language, saying, "I do think they should change the oath, though, because it's hard to say you have no mental reservation on a job like for being able to make that commitment." The remark was presented as the chair’s opinion about the oath’s phrasing.

The board moved to adopt the posted agenda for the meeting. The presiding officer indicated, “I’ll make a motion,” a motion was seconded, and the chair called for the ayes; the motion "passed unanimously," according to the chair’s announcement. Before adjourning into closed session, the chair asked whether any members of the public wished to address the board on closed-session items; hearing none, the board proceeded to closed session. No formal votes beyond the agenda adoption are recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
