Mayor Holman proclaims Earth Day, Women’s History Month, transit and compost awareness events in Norman

Earth Day / Green Norman Ecobration: The mayor proclaimed April 22 as Earth Day and March 22–May 18 as Green Norman Ecobration, noting a city‑run series of free events culminating in a festival on April 26 at Reeves Park. Katrina Boatler, introduced as an environmental compliance specialist, thanked the council and said the series would include tours, workshops, volunteer cleanups and outreach: "Come out this spring. Come to a workshop. Come to a cleanup. Visit the festival," she said.
Women’s History Month: The council proclaimed March 2026 as Women’s History Month. Dr. Sherry Irvin, introduced as interim chair of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Oklahoma, accepted the proclamation and reflected on historical organizers and the theme of leading change for a sustainable future.
Transit professionals appreciation: The mayor proclaimed March 18 as public transit professional appreciation day. Taylor Johnson and transit staff described Embark and Via Norman services and cited annual system mileage and passenger trips; the proclamation thanked drivers, mechanics and dispatch staff.
International Compost Awareness Week: The mayor proclaimed May 3–9 as International Compost Awareness Week. Amanda Schofield, president of Ocasa (Oklahoma Compost and Sustainability Association), and Lisa Rourke Brewer thanked the council and described OKASA programming, an annual compost festival (May 9) and volunteer opportunities.
No formal action was required beyond acknowledgment. The proclamations were bundled and acknowledged by unanimous consent earlier in the meeting.
