Summary
Trustees heard resident and business complaints about guests at the Best Western (formerly Holiday Inn Express), noted about 65 police calls in the past 12 months, and directed staff to inspect the property and invite the owner to the next board meeting to assess compliance with the motel's special‑use permit.
Trustees on April 6 directed staff to investigate operations at the Best Western motel after neighbors and nearby business owners raised concerns about increased calls for police and ambulance service tied to guests at the property.
Mayor (S2) told the board that Nassau County Department of Social Services has been placing some people at the motel for short‑term housing and that the village had recorded roughly 65 calls to the property in the past 12 months, many for ambulance response. The mayor said the current ownership had converted the former Holiday Inn Express to a Best Western in September 2025 and that complaints from nearby businesses prompted outreach to the general manager and owner.
The mayor proposed inviting the motel owner to the next board meeting and asked village departments — code enforcement, building, fire marshal and health officials — to inspect the property for compliance with the special‑use permit that governs motel operation at that site. Trustees discussed the process for revoking or adjusting a special‑use permit if the board finds noncompliance; they noted any revocation would require public hearings and review of the permit’s terms.
Trustees asked staff to review the original conditions of the special‑use permit and to coordinate any necessary inspections. The mayor said she would also contact county and state officials and the Best Western corporate office to raise village concerns and request corrective action if warranted.
