The Marysville Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees announced in closed session on May 13 that trustees unanimously selected Jordan Reeves as the district's next superintendent; the board said Reeves's employment will be finalized when the board approves his employment contract at its next regular meeting, scheduled for May 27, 2025.
The selection followed an interview process trustees described as lengthy. Dr. Stephen Chong Yang and other trustees publicly congratulated Reeves at the meeting and thanked the interview panel. Reeves thanked trustees and district staff, saying he was grateful for the opportunity to continue "to move the district forward and to continue to work with our labor partners and all stakeholders in our community." (Jordan Reeves)
Trustees handled routine business and a series of personnel and budget-related actions. The board approved revised and prior meeting minutes (motions carried; several individual abstentions were recorded), adopted facilities-related board policies on a second reading (Section 7000), and approved the consent agenda (items 15.1'017.8).
On personnel matters, the board approved tentative agreements with multiple employee groups, including the district's unrepresented employees, CSEA Chapter 648, and AMACE (management and confidential employees). The board also adopted final resolutions to reduce or discontinue classified services and to reduce or limit particular certificated services; staff said the resolutions conclude a layoff process begun in February 2025 under the Education Code provisions noted at the meeting. Trustees voted to carry these actions as presented.
Why it matters: Board approval of staffing reductions and tentative employee agreements sets the district's personnel and budget path for the coming school year. The superintendent hire becomes final only after the board approves Reeves's employment contract on May 27.
