"Astronomy club would handle all of this," one trustee said, describing the intended division of responsibility.
Board members raised practical concerns: where to store the instruments securely, how to check items out and inspect them on return, whether the library's insurance would cover housed equipment, and who would be liable for damage. The director said she reviewed online materials about kit lending and that the process is more complex than originally thought.
Trustees asked for additional information before making any decision, including specific plans for storage, a training/checkout protocol and clarification of liability and repair responsibilities. Potential options discussed included building a locked cabinet to house up to two telescopes and limiting lending to appointments made with club members.
No formal vote was taken; trustees said they would continue gathering information and revisit the request at a later meeting.
