Director January Adams told the Franklin Township Library Board on Jan. 28 that at the fiscal-year midpoint the library system had spent about 42.9% of its budget and the branch about 41%, below the expected 50% pace.
January also summarized recent programming: the adult services department ran 40 programs with 610 attendees and youth services ran 36 programs with 1,320 participants. The year-long reading challenge that ended Dec. 31 was described as successful, and a winter reading program began Dec. 22 and will run through Feb. 23; as of Jan. 12, 73 patrons had signed up for the year-long challenge's repeat offering.
January credited a support staff member in circulation for improving volunteer management and said about 24 volunteers had signed up for the winter session. Trustees expressed approval of the programming numbers and asked clarifying questions about the timing of audits and compensation billing.
The report also included a brief discussion of changes in book distribution following the exit of Baker & Taylor from the market and mentioned Follett and Ingram as alternative vendors.
